In my school there are certain 'rules' to follow as I believe every school or community has them.
If the parents picking up there children later then 15 minutes after pick up time, the child will be back in the classroom or waiting in the office.... so here is a point for the parents to understand certain rules and guideline in a learning community no matter where they come from.
This assures that all parents have to behave the same, remember the same things and respect special rules and behaviors in schools ....and be on time!
If these behavior changes (lets take only the punctuality issue) is taken into homes and family teach this factor to their kids outside school in future.. we have achieved a new learning cycle that includes the families.
Greeting behaviors would be another cultural point to observe. If all children in school have to say' good morning' and ' good bye' they will take these words and greetings home and use them wherever they are and with any people and children they meet. The greeting is taken out of school into society and communities.
I can only agree with my peers above that I want my children to leave school with certain characteristics/values developed like:
Self-esteem,
Loyalty,
Respect, Self-respect
Tolerance,
Understanding,
Justice thinking,
Fairness
to be continued ....
